Premarket is a daily puzzle site. We keep as little about you as we can. This page says exactly what that is.
Playing without an account
You can play every puzzle without signing in. Your progress, streaks and the light/dark setting are stored in your browser (localStorage) and never leave your device unless you later sign in and choose to import them.
What we store if you create an account
Accounts use a magic link, so there is no password. We store only:
- Your email address (to send the sign-in link). We also keep the domain part, for example "example.edu", to show a verified firm or school badge.
- Your display name, and any firm or school tag you type in.
- Your puzzle results: the game, the date, your guesses, the score we calculated, and when you finished. These power the leaderboards.
- Friends leagues you create or join.
- The aggregate stats you chose to import from your browser (played / won / streaks), if you did.
What we do not store
No names, phone numbers, addresses, payment details or birthdays. We do not store your IP address: rate limiting uses a one-way hash that expires within a day. Chart, ticker and country puzzle content is public and not about you.
Cookies and analytics
Signing in sets a session cookie so you stay signed in; it is essential and contains no tracking.
Analytics (PostHog) is optional and off until you accept the notice at the bottom of the page. If you accept, we see which puzzles are opened, started, finished and shared, in aggregate. You can change your mind by clearing site data in your browser; the notice will ask again.
Leaderboards and badges
Leaderboards show your display name, score, solve time and the firm or school tag you chose. A verified badge is derived from your email domain only; we never show your email. Street Standings publish firm and school totals, not individual emails.
Your choices
From your account page you can download everything we hold about you as a JSON file, and delete your account. Deleting removes your login, profile, results, league memberships and imported stats immediately and permanently.
Where data lives and who sees it
Accounts and results are stored with Supabase (hosted Postgres, United States). The site runs on Vercel. Sign-in emails are sent through our email provider. None of them sell or use your data for their own purposes. We do not sell data to anyone.
